[FINALIST] Memba O!
freetown
PROBLEM:
Most sierra leoneans cannot tell you:
*What their parliamentarians voted on.
*What parliamentarians sit on the various oversight committees; water, energy, education, sports etc…
*When their parliamentarians were absent from proceedings
*The money collected for constituency development fund
As a result parliamentarians :
*Are not accountable to their constituents
*Rely on partyism to promote themselves & not their performance
*Trump activities that have nothing to do with their primary job as legislatures
OBJECTIVES:
We want to improve the accessibility of the key activities of parliamentarians & their records in parliament; how they vote, their attendance, contributions etc...
This way we can hold them accountable to their stances and votes in parliament. Those newly vying for public office will also be aware of the open access to their performance in parliament.
This will help change the political narrative to issues rather than blind "partyism" or "tribalism".
SOLUTION:
MEMBA O! Will develop a suite of tools that publish captured activities of parliamentarians in parliament. Including integration with major social media channels, with tools that allow users to comment on and socially share individual pages.
Particularly allows users to receive notifications on particular parliamentarians or special committee activities.
COMPETITORS:
We have tried to find organisations in Sierra Leone that capture parliamentary proceedings and produce actionable databases but have been unable to find them.
However in the sub-continent we have found a handful in, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya & Zimbabwe.
DATASETS:
The data is physically available in parliament. Memba o! will electronically generate the datasets. Memba o! will work with the following partners:
*Media practioners that report on parliament
*CSO's involved in governance
*The office of the clerk of parliament
